Victory Day (HRV) History

Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian celebrates the achievements of the Croatian Armed Forces during the country's War of Independence. The day also pays tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their homeland.

This commemorates the victory of Croatian forces and the swift military action named Operation Storm on August 5, 1995 that brought an end to the War of Independence. As Croatia became a member of the European Union in 2013, this observance not only highlights the nation's perseverance but also fosters a sense of unity, understanding, and solidarity among other European Union member states.
